Hap,

I know that NYSDEC website is a wealth of information on where theres state land.

Heres a link to the page for region 8 which encompasses the are you're talking about.
 http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8276.html

Helps to cross refernce with google maps.

After a very quick look, Rattlesnake Hill WMA looks like a good bet. Very close south of Geneseo, just west of Dansville. about 5000 acres and some adjoining state forest.

decent amount of state land in that area, check out google maps.

Good luck.

My buddy near Arcade saw 22 deer in the picked corn Saturday evening, too far from his stand, though. I'm chomping at the bit to get up there! He's passed on some small bucks, I don't pass on legal animals, just hope I get an opportunity.

I'm planning on getting out Saturday before the wind and rain hit Long Island.

That would be pretty cool to see.

It has been really slow here; did shoot a nice doe Sunday morning with my Don Dow Stik .  The rut needs to kick in but I'm very happy to get meat.

Not so many deer showing up so far--maybe when the thermometer dips and this predicted front comes through!

Went out 1pm til 4 at one location. Missed a turkey at 30 yds. too many eyes (7) birds so I waited for the last one. He had that look when I drew the back back like.."What the He...". Those hot pink feathers looked good in flight...about 8" over his back. Turkeys sure do run fast...

Then eased into natural blind number 2 about 400 yds away. Just as I eased in...deer coming trotting in over the ridge...Too late..deer turned and ran outta there...Deer sure do run fast....   :dunno:

Hunted yesterday a.m. saw 12 deer from the ground 2 were bucks, hunted the same area again this a.m. saw none. Went turkey hunting with my 8 year old son tonight and saw 2 bucks in a cut corn field running a doe and we could hear him grunting. then on the way home saw a nice buck running another doe in the headlights, i think things are a changing.
