Best arrow keeper for my longbow
« on: August 19, 2012, 10:21:00 PM »
This will be my first trad season and I am looking for a good arrow keeper to keep my arrow on the shelf while hanging in the tree.  I am shooting a 1 piece saxon longbow.  Figured I would ask your guys opinions on what one to get.  Thanks!

I've seen pictures of them made by glueing a short fletching on backwards cut down to desired height and personally looks like a great idea to me haven't  tried it personally but looks good!

One of the Trad Gang sponsors, Flemish Traditional Sports, makes a very nice arrow holder that is simple, effective, and very well thought out.  I think they are really worth a look...

I either setup my leather rest with an outer bump or wear in a bear hair rest before season. Both ways has kept me from ever needing an arrow keeper.

Made mine out of a THICK rubber band I had lying around.3" strip..punch a hole slightly smaller than arrow near one end..slice end of hole to cinch over arrow..attach with velcro on back of riser.
Falls away beautfully and comes off quickly with no harm to bow.

Thanks for the compliments folks.  The unique thing about our arrow holder is that it can easily be transferred from one bow to another without any modifications, glue or mess.

I'd been using the, rubber band and tooth pick and peg versions for years.
Just checked out the FTS link above. Nice and simple.
Could build one myself.
But their pricing is great, ordered on for this season for my BBI.

Below is a picture of the rubber band, post method.  Instead of using a match stick or tooth pick, Mark Baker showed me this, a short piece of 1/8 brass rod drilled into and epoxied in the handle.

The rubber band is tied on to the post with a slip knot, then the free end is looped around the arrow and secured over the post, as you draw your arrow back the tag end of the rubber band pulls off the post, leaving your arrow free to go!
Thanks,
Tim

My hunting bow has a rubber Shurgrip.  I slip an L-shaped piece of flexible gasket rubber in behind it, the tip of the L has a hole cut to slip over the arrow (similar to a commercial type made by ???).  The top edge has a piece of hooked Velcro stuck over the edge of the rubber to help hold it tight.  The hooked Velcro is also handy for snagging a piece of cotton ball for testing wind direction (pull a wisp of cotton ball off and let it float...it's visible a long ways).  Anyway, simple but it works well.
