Starting to think deer camp
« on: August 21, 2012, 09:17:00 PM »
Now that the temps have dropped and cooler mornings have begun, it wont be long till deer camp.
Anybody else starting to slowly feel the energy starting to rise for deer camp?

Yeah, I can already smell the chili cooking. Going out this weekend to check the condition of all the stands. Also, got to check for damage. We had some some storms recently, and my son told me we lost a few more trees. My oaks have taken a beating over the last couple of years. I have a new tent on order and as soon as it arrives, I will be testing it out. The air is just a bit sweeter when you can smell the approach of another seaon - number 49 for me.

It is time.  The longer I stay, the more I am being shipped all over the place (job) and it seems like I have less and less time available.  This year that is changing,  well, soon at least.  I am gonna hunt my lil bit of property in the UP for the first time since I acquired it.

It ain't very big, but I can sit there and nobody better bother me !

Chili and deer camp, seems you just cant have one without the other.
Sam, since you mentioned tents,i may have to set up my old canvas Baker lodge this weekend and let her air out a bit, just a little something to tide me over for a bit.   :goldtooth:

mini camp workbee at Shrewhaven Lodge coming up in September. Will reorganize the shed, put up shelving and work on siding after that. It's always good to get away to Michigans upper peninsula. I think there's a magic window when you cross the Makinac Bridge that transforms a person into a different mode and spirit.

I'm getting excited just reading all of these posts.  There definitely is a touch of fall in the air here in Iowa.

Good luck to all of you with your hunting this fall!

Temps here are still up during the day but the humidity is down quite a bit. Nights are cool and mornings are very comfortable... can't wait!

Opens 15 Sept, Checked the stand locations, everything looks like a go.  (This week).

Storming every afternoon, stands will probably be flooded by the 15th,(again) Heat is unbearable, Skeeters are thick as molasses, and a Hurricanes coming! Yep, everything seems to be normal for camp again this year. Can't wait to see how plans will be changed once again this year.

Moleman, I just ordered a wedge tent a few weeks ago from Tentsmiths, as I plan to get into the Renezvous scene this year. So I will be setting it up and will probably do deer camp under canvas for the first year in a long time.

By the way, a small dollop of Bourbon in the chili really enhances the flavor. Don't put enough that you actually taste the Bourban itself but just enough that people ask what that extra flavor ingredient is. Good eating and good hunting!
