I have owed a Schafer and a Blacktail before. Thinking about getting back into trad..I have always been intriqued by Bear Bows... would a new Super Kodiak be a good bow to shoot and hunt with? your thoughts on newer Bear Bows would be appreciated...

Go to the on-line auction house and get one of the original ones. It would be cheaper than buying a new one.
Good Luck,
Ross

The new bow will allow fast flite strings and the old will require dacron. The low stretch fast flite will be faster. Depends on what you like, what length and poundage, etc. The older bows are hard to find in high poundage and longer length(64") and a reasonable price.

I've shot both an older one and a newer one. They both shoot great.
I have an old 1970 Grizzly and my next bow will be a NEW Bear Super Kodiak Grayling Green.

I would recommend getting a new one. Warranty and all, for $100 more than what you will pay for one in decent shape on the auction site. A no brainer for me. God Bless

gonna list this one for sale in a couple of minutes, I bought it new from the Bear factory Sept of 2011. it's a Blemished bow and I hand picked this one out of a dozen they had at the Bear Archery factory Pro Shop. I build my own bows and I'm not sure why I bought this one..it's 60#s and I have not strung it since the day I bought it..only 20 or so arrows shot thru it.. I usually shoot bows under 55 lbs.

I have handled the newer bows and the grips are a little different. I have been in the market for a Super Grizzly and was at Cabelas and they had one in stock. I did not like the grip at all. I'll be looking for an older one.
To be honest I see very little difference in performance between dacron and FF on the older bows. I made a FF string with padded loops and shot it on my 70's Griz but did not trust it. Went back to dacron and it shoots the same. It is a tad quieter but a little more vibration on the shot. I'll take the quiet shot.

I picked up a 1970 grizzly just recently for 150.00. It shoots real nice. I believe i'll be hunting with it this fall. I own a Schafer,Palmer and a few top end longbows. This lil grizz is just as fun to shoot as my more expensive bows and it's accurate and quiet to boot. So I'd say find a nice older Bear bit thats just my experience I haven't shot a newer B
