Looks like a promising SC season!
« on: September 02, 2012, 02:03:00 PM »
Deer season has been in since August 15th. I've been a couple of times and have seen some small bucks, doe and a piebald doe.

I put my trail camera out to see if I could get a good picture of her. I left it out all last week. Here's what showed up!

I'd go after the piebald doe first, but wouldn't pass on the nice buck.

I'd be after that piebald doe! I've never killed one, but would love to.  Would make a stunning tanned hide.

Something is not right with these pics, Benjy.
62 degrees in Columbia in August. I call fake! d;^)
I think that is the biggest buck I've seen in SC and I hunted the Low Country for over 12 years.

Pat, This has been the coolest August that I can ever remember! Of course it's supposed to be back hot next week. I am going out tomorrow to see what happens. I can not shoot the doe until September 15 when my doe dags become valid.

The piebald doe was there last year and never gave me a shot. I will shoot her if I'm given the opportunity, BUT if she and this buck come in at the same time, I am shooting the Buck, no hesitaion!

Like Pat, I have been hunting here in SC for 30 years and that is the biggest buck I have ever seen in SC.

Excellent low country buck. Cool piebald, have you seen many others  around there? That cool snap end of August felt great to be in the woods. Come on October and cooler weather.

I have a piebald (tecnically skewbald. Piebald is black and white) on my property too. Native Americans considered it to be bad luck to kill one. I probably would anyway. Thats a nice buck Benjy!

Is that corn on the ground?

With baiting being legal in SC and an almost unlimited number of bucks able to be taken each year it is amazing they don't go extinct.

Hopefully you can get that buck to come to show up during daylight hours.

They don't get that big in SC by being dumb.

Best of luck sir.

Yep, That is corn on the ground. I scatter it out like I'm sowing seeds. It's scattered over about a 15 yard area. It's only legal in the lower half of the state to bait.

I have his left side shed and I believe a picture of him from 2 years age. I'll have to see if I can find it.

Brian, Thanks for the info,I have never seen a black and white deer. Do they exist? I have killed a few deer in the swamps that have almost a black face. I didn't make it to the cane patch yet but soon!
