Most excellent story!  Glad the shot turned out for the better...it's always tough when a shot doesn't go as planned.

He oughta be good eating!

There has been recent discussions about the benefits of heavy poundage bows.  This is a perfect example of a shot going bad but due to the heavier poundage bow, the arrow still had enough energy to get the job done.

I have the Eberlestock Blue Widow and I love it. I could put WAY more weight in it than I could carry. Fits better than any pack I have tried before. They have it figured out. Not as light empty as I'd like but they are built TOUGH.

That's a large pack, do you actually hunt and shoot with it on?

Way to go, Derrick!  Plenty of good eatin' at the Oxnam household.  Was your hunt in the area that you told me you like to return to?

Awesome!  Congrats on your hunt!  Beautifully written, I felt as if I was standing beside you taking it all in myself.  Its the closest thing that i will get to my own elk hunt.

It would be tough to shoot with it fully loaded but with only a days essentials inside it's doable.

Steve - Here's a link to discussion that we just had that might answer some of your questions.

 Packgoats

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks guys for all you kind comments.  If you ever get a chance to go on an elk hunt, don't pass it up.  I don't think there is anything quite like it.
