You don't have to be a leftie .... great strings
« on: September 09, 2012, 01:19:00 PM »
I met Allen Shafer several years ago on a hunt in Wyoming, my first impression was that he is a really nice guy. That was confirmed when he let a 155 whitetail get by him that I was later able to harvest ... Thanks Allen

I have followed his threads here on TG and know he has tried or owned about every bow out there. I also know he makes bow strings. I have a Blacktail Elite that I have owned for a few years and this year decided to hunt with it, but I could not get this bow " hunting quiet" . I am not new to Trad archery or tuning bows. I tried dacron, several FF's and multiple combinations of silencers but could not get this bow hunting quiet, there was always a slight high pitch twang to it. So I thought why not PM  Allen and ask him about my noise issue. His reply was I'll make you one of my strings and try it out. It was an 8 strand Ultra cam with two sets of whiskers tied on. He also puts on a slick adjustable two nock ties on the string that works great. It took me about twenty minutes of brace adjustments, nock height adjustment, getting the whiskers fanned out and then there was " silence " .... finally

So "again" thank you Allen you make a great string. So take a look at LeftiesRus. Their strings even work for righties.

Thanks Ken, I'm glad it all worked out for you!

I should still hold a grudge over you killing "my" buck though!   :biglaugh:

Good luck this fall!

I've been using Allen's strings for several years now. He builds as good a string as you can find and you won't deal with a nicer guy.....fast service too!

In my opinion in the string Biz there is Allen and nobody else,I know that is strong statement but add this,Will build what you want,String maker "A" will build you what he wants or take a Hike,He will build them in days not weeks or Months..He has put some skins on a couple bows of mine, and I used Morrison,Jack Harrison, and Allen,no Comparison,Allens all the way,and no finer fella to deal with,This is my experience and my opinion, and I just received 3 New bows and the strings will be Allens,he is buiding me 4 now....

I agree about Allen's strings, his are on most of my bows and those that don't will before all is said and done. No loose wispy ends in his flemish twists. And one heck of shot to boot.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.
