The huge advantage wool has is it absorbs water and releases it without making you feel wet.  It insulates when wet, you don't feel clammy, and it resists odor.  

THAT'S WHY ALL THE SYNTHETICS COMPARE THEMSELVES TO WOOL!

I dont like the UA stuff either to tight and intches me to death. Im gonna try the poly stuff this year and see how good it is.
