Thermacell questions
« on: September 14, 2012, 09:42:00 AM »
I'm going to get one ordered to have before our opener. Earth scent or regular? Do I really need the holster?

I use the regular scent and the holster is very handy.

Either scent works well, and I agree that the holster is a good item to have. With it, you can position the unit where the flame won't burn you, your clothing, or your gear. I tried using mine without the holster when I first got it and quickly realized I needed a way to attach it. Sticking it in a pocket isn't a good idea.

I'm glad I got the holster. I've also used it to strap the unit to something up-wind from several of us when sitting outside our house on a lake. Kept all of us mosquito free.

Don't know anything about the earth scent...I know the regular works....

The original holsters were nice...sorry, just has to be said...the new ones SUCK.  They are cheaply made and I've had my unit actually fall out of the holster 3 times.

Thermacells are one of the best products a hunter can buy,  takes a few minutes to kick in but once it does you will be mosquitoe free.  I've always used the regular scent and definitely get the holster. Trying to hang it without a holster can be difficult keeping things from melting and burning.

like Terry said the old holsters are alot better than the newer ones, i have one of each, but a holster is a must have in my opinion, also its WAY cheaper if you refill your own butane cartridges do a youtube search on thermocell refill....

My only regret about the Thermacells is I didn't have them for the first app. 47 years of my hunting in South Louisiana.Kip

I do not have a holster so I loop a length of velcro on the base of my stand and stick another section of it on the thermocell.  Works well.

I've done the exact same thing since Therm came out. works very well, and cuts down on bulk, carries in my fanny pack.

Also added a small string tether on that end cap, its easy to lose, and not really needed, but...

I use the regular scent and lay it on the base of my stand as close to the tree as possible. I don't have a holster and have never felt a need for one. I've never been bit with it on.

Haven't used mine since I left Fl., but I always just tied it to the stand or belt, etc.

I like the holster because you can put your extra stuff in it and attach it to the stand. Last year I accidentally kicked mine off my climber in early season Louisiana in a swampy area wearing just a baselayer and thought how bad could it be?  Well at dusk I found out.

I also put mine on the bottom of my stand close to tree on upwind side.

Hoyt, I never saw one like that. An original?

It's an old one..not long after they came out you could get the small one like I got for $10. I got the regular also..first, but didn't like the clicking noise it made when you pushed the button to light it. So use the little one that you light with cigarette lighter. Takes up less space also.
