Opening Day - stumbuling & fumbling! Updated pg 2

Maybe it's just me but every year on opening day of deer season I seem to be all out of sorts....for lack of a better word "clumsy".
Today started with a total miscalculation on the alarm clock. I got up, made some coffee went into the bathroom and when I came out the sun was on its way up! 5:45 should have been 4:45! Not only am I late to my stand but ever brittle stick found its way directly under my boot. So much for stealth! Once I got on stand i sat there trying to figure out exactly why I chose this spot? 2 hours later with zero activity I not only climbed down but took my stand with me....I never did like that part of the property!
All in all a great morning to laugh at myself and work out the cobwebs of 8 months of inactivity!

I feel your pain, could not get comfortable this morning either. Came out early and will try again tomorrow. Hard to be quiet going to stand in the dark in a drought.

Yep.....It seems to take me trip or two before I really get back in the groove every year, and it gets more so with each passing year.
I don't think I'm nearly as mad at the deer as in years gone by. I still enjoy the getting ready, and the outdoor experience as much as ever, but the killing of game is less important today.

I'm so bad I forget how to pack my stands together from yr to yr.
Got to where I make dry runs to get the cobwebs out, old muscles familiar with climbing trees and going through forgetting stuff, etc..then when the season opens at least I can halfway remember what to do.

I look at the first few times out as a sort of Pre-season game. You know your going to make mistakes and probably have disappointments, but your there and that's what matters. Good luck!

I know what you mean. Went this morning for the season opener. Forgot my hat, gloves and camera. As it turned out I didn't need the camera. Or the gloves or hat. First time using a stand every year seems clumsy. But it sure did feel good to be in the woods.

Got up just fine this morning. Timed it so I would just be able to see as I entered the woods.
Planned to sit with my PAC seat and H.I.P.S. blind. Only needed to drive 1/4 mile. Strung my bow put the PAC seat on with my pack.
Was ready to start out. Had forgot my shooting glove and arm guard.
Ran home and re-started. Got set up and the rain started.
Got pretty wet before I called it.

I always look at the first hunt as a shakedown trip. I always forget to pack something. A deer sighting is a bonus, with an arrow released a truly joyful experience.

You are lucky you only lost an hour. Usually when I set my alarm clock wrong, I have it on PM instead of AM

Takes me a week to get into the routine and slow down, tune into the woods clock. How I wish that I could be tuned in every day of the year. Did you see the moon yesterday morning? Sliveriest little fingernail clipping...
