I don't post very often here, but was too excited to be able to keep quiet.
About 1p.m., I sat against a fallen log near a path leading to a small pond. After an hour or so, two baby deer with spots walked by about 10 yards away, but I would have felt guilty taking one of them. (And, I could hear mom right behind me.) They hung around for close to an hour, and I was able to watch them browse. After they left, I moved myself to the other side of the log in order to be able to hide better for the next group coming at me.
A few minutes later, I heard something coming down the path, and a jake appeared out from behind the log about 15 yards out. Quick decision... legal... and the arrow was sent. He ended up with a Colombian necktie.
For those interested, I'm using a 1970 something Ben Pearson Rogue recurve, 50# @ 28" with a bamboo arrow and Zwickey 125 grain broadhead. Total arrow weight about 525 grains.
