aromakr, you are so right. Not only does the nock have to be straight, it has to be centered. The string should send its stored energy down the center of the arrow shaft, not off to the side.
I bought a tool for checking center/straightness of nocks a few years back: "Tru-Nock", made by Okie Manufacturing, Inc; If I remember correctly, I picked it up at The Footed Shaft, in Rochester, MN... Set the nock in the tool, spin the shaft, and you can see right away if the nock is true.
