Excessive face paint make a better hunter?
« on: September 22, 2012, 10:43:00 AM »
[Tongue in cheek here]...anyone else amazed/shamed at the TV hunters using excessive face paint on their hunts?     :scared:   Does looking like a triple-cross between Gene Simmons (of KISS fame), a Samoan Warrior and a WWE Wrestler make me a better hunter? I'll wait to hear whether I need to buy a gallon of the stuff.

well,     umm     It makes you prettier !

and it makes you stand out / well known (like Gene S on Kiss).   So, if I wear a certain stand out design (or blob) on TV and folks watching see that, whenever they see that design they think of me (marketing ?  ala Bone Collector).

I hardly ever watch the outdoor programs any more.  They really are not what I like to see.  Why watch something that causes me a spike in blood pressure and anger ?

Ha ha. Agreed!!  It seems any time you give some guys a reason to put on make up they just have to go all out and really show off their "creative" side!

I stopped watching hunting shows a couple years ago. Really don't watch much of any tv anymore. Keeps me from worrying to much about what others are doing.

I do however enjoy some of the fine Trad hunting videos availible from time to time.

I kinda like the greens the best.  Makes my eyes really green and stand out.

Not sure how the browns interact with my complexion, especially when I am having a bad hair / moustache day.  I wish they would make a cucumber based face paint,  or maybe . . . one with a touch of glitter.

We were taught in the military to disrupt the features and to cut down on the glare of exposed skin. I remember a demonstration where one of our trainers used two fingers in mud as opposed to an entire pack of camo Estee Lauder. Sometimes a little is better than alot. I, too, quit watching hunting shows.

You have to learn how to say good hit after you gut shoot a deer if you want to be just like them. The makeup alone will not do it. I don't watch hunting shows on satuday morning I watch cartoons with my five year old, much more enlightening.  :smileystooges:

It makes it more fun when I stop for coffee at Starbucks on the way out.

It doesnt make you "better", However i like for my face to be concealed. The last thing I want is a big pale face sticking out in the woods. I wear quite a bit of paint, however it doesnt take much to cover my entire face I use a H.S. camo compac that i have had for about 3-4 years now and still have a bunch left. I just dont like having a face mask to get in the way of my anchor points.

I'm all for a little cover up but some guys just plain overdo it... even the Governator didn't wear as much as some of those guys.

And with you being from Colorado... I'm fairly certain you know what a Samoan looks like... I have a few friends that went to school there and they fit the "Samoan warrior" description to a T.

" He was followed by Manabozho, who, having the enchantment instantly removed, put on a smiling face. "Amazement!" said he; "how fine the meat is." "Yes," replied the wolf; "it is always so with us; we know our work, and always get the best. It is not a long tail that makes a hunter." Manabozho bit his lip."

I've been using these face paint patterns but all it does is seem to spook everything. Deer, people, birds, squirrels, bears, wolves...

makes me think of my turkey hunt in Tenn this spring. we saw a big bird strutting every day in a field, so I told my buddy to pull in and I would ask permission, been hunting all morning, then in the truck for a while. on the way to the door I caught my reflection, full camo, face painted, dew rag,,, I thought this may not go well,,, strangely no one answered the door.
no turkey by the way, so maybe not enough paint?

Skitch. .

do you really think so ?   Oh my.  Guess I need stretch pants now.  What colors make you look slenderer ?

Really. .  I often use face paint,  and when I do, I drink. .  wait, wrong commercial. .  I really do like to goof around and make weird patterns etc.  What the heck, nobody told me I had to grow up.  Someone should try making two really big mean eyes on their face. .  see if it works. . .
