One evening while we were hunting for a good warthog, a herd of impala arrived. While admiring the impala, Louis noticed that one was quite slim in the paunch. Then with the binos, he noticed that there was a large wound on his shoulder. He mentioned that we should shoot this impala because the wound looked infected. While debating whether to shoot, the impala knelt at the water to drink. That's when Louis decided that we had to shoot him. No healthy impala would kneel to drink, leaving himself  vulnerable.
So i drew back and shot. The arrow was good height but hit where the neck and chest meet.
We waited about 30 minutes and started to follow blood. After about 200 yards we heard him lift. The tracks showed that he was staggering as he walked. So, we kept following. Around 500 yards into the track, he lifted before i could get a shot. We could see he was weakening.
1oo yards later, he lifted around 25 yards from us. That image is burnt into memory. He stood there for a moment while i aimed and shot. I shot  low between his legs. He ran about 20 yards and was wobbling. I ran to him and shot him through the chest at 15 yards. He still managed to run 60 yards before dropping in sight. Remarkable will to live. A memory that will last a lifetime.
