Its decided!!!!!!!
« on: September 26, 2012, 12:00:00 PM »
Well.....sort of. My wife and I have decided to move to Montana, after finding out that it will be another two years before she can start the nursing program here in Iowa because of the incredibly long waiting list. We are trying to decide between Great Falls, Bozeman, Missoula or Billings. All of those cities have colleges close enough to commute that offer a nursing program, so we are trying to decide which would be best for hunting. Any opinions? I should mention that I love to fly fish, and any of those cities that have a bank I will be able to work for. Thanks guys and gals

Grew up in Montana, and lived in various parts of the state until about 25 years ago. Missoula would be my choice hunting or fishing either one.

The nice thing about my job is that by the time we move out there (August 2013) I will have 188 hours of vacation a year, which is really nice plenty of hunting time    :archer:

I hear ya about the sports, the funny thing is that my high school changed districts (thanks a lot IHSSA) and we have had to drive to Atlantic, Glenwood, Creston and will drive to Harlan later this year. Keep in mind we are 15 miles west of Des Moines, and Council Bluffs traveled to our stadium this past friday, making for a heck of a drive!

I lived in Great Falls for 15 years while stationed at Malmstrom AFB.  It is pretty nice, but I like Missoula better.  Ken

I loved flying into Bozeman and then traveling up to Big Sky to hunt with my buddy back in the late 80's early 90's.  Hunted Lone Mountain, Beehive Basin and also by the 320 Ranch close to Yellowstone.  Excellent fishing too.  I'm sure it's changed a little since then, but I was close to some huge bull elk, shot a mule deer and a cinnamon colored black bear as well.

Congratulations! I just moved to Montana myself. Of the cities you named, for me it would a coin toss between Missoula or Bozeman. I've always liked Missoula but Bozeman is nice too. Both offer plenty of hunting and fishing opportunity.

Missoula or bozeman if you like to fish.  Great falls is windy and billings is ugly.  Bozeman is the most expensive of the two.

Missoula area big game populations have been hit hard (wolves) the last few years. If it was based just on hunting and fishing I would actually pick Bozeman. If you value a city with a good downtown, lots of breweries, and decent hunting/fishing, Missoula is the place to be. In short Bozeman is less interesting, as a city, than Missoula.

Those few cities are actually the only ones we have searched so far, we are both up to any other city as long as they have a nursing program. we are planning on purchasing a home maybe 6 months after we get there, and the house would not be in city limits. I do love to fly fish, however hunting is my true passion and I will choose that everytime. Flyfishing is however, a close second! My wife loves to fish, and is really catching on to hunting so we are both very excited. We don't really drink much at all but do enjoy some nice food now and again.

Have you look into Idaho....like CDA area or Sandpoint?  with CDA, Spokane is near with tons of nursing opportunities. I just spent 7 1/2 weeks in Northern Idaho. Best summer ever. I am moving to Idaho in 16 months.....

Montana, Wyoming, Colorado...one thing they all have in common is when you are standing on the top of a mountain peak....you can look east and see Iowa!   :D

I've only traveled through them a couple times but I'd sure like to live in Missoula someday.  Good luck with your move.
