Vintage Stallion Recurve?
« on: September 26, 2012, 02:25:00 PM »
Does anyone know about Stallion Recurves? I found/saw one in an attic today. The owner is mid 60's, he said he got it as a 15 yr old. That would put the bow around 50 yrs old. It's 55@28, 62", right hand. Looks in great shape. Would like to shoot him an offer, but no clue it's worth. Sorry, I didn't have my camera.

Do you know what kind of Stallion?  Ben Pearson, Quinn, Centaur.  I did a quick google search and looks like there are a couple different manufacturers for a Stallion.

I'd think for a bow that old $50 would be a good offer, or at least a starting point that wouldn't be insulting.

I didn't see Pearson, Quinn or Centaur on it anywhere. So, not sure who manufactured it. I too Googled it and the riser looks very similar to a Ben Pearson bow showed.

If its 50 years old you can bet it's not a Quinn or Centaur. They are way more recent to the scene than that.
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.

Thanks David, I had a hunch those were newer companies.
If it's a Ben Pearson I saw one sell on the bidding site for $86, hope that helps.

I own a Ben Pearson Stallion. The riser is  laminated dark and light colored woods...kinda like a zebra.

Yes Sir, that's kinda what it looked like with faded green limbs. Thanks for the responses. So $75 would be a reasonable price?

I have a later Stallion, it is like a Ben Pearson Colt (below it), but with tip overlays. This one has reddish-brown glass.

I called the guy to try and buy it...he's not ready to sell, even though he probably won't ever shoot it again, but, he'll keep me in mind if he does decide to let it go.    :(
