Skull & Osage pic
« on: September 27, 2012, 06:18:00 PM »
I just finished last years skull mount and put it on some Osage that was bound for the wood stove. I thought the Osage was fitting because I shot him with my Osage bow. This is the first time I did a skull mount by just leaving it in a bucket of water. It was so easy I could do it. No more boiling, beatles or burying in the garden for me.

That turned out really nice.  I love the look of the osage and very appropriate since you got it with an osage bow.

I just caped out the head and put the skull in a 5 gallon bucket of water for two months ( really stinks). When done hose it off and put some of hair bleach stuff on it to make it white.

It does look very nice.  Since building a few bows with osage I've grown very fond to that yellow wood.
A suggestion, though, only use peroxide to bleach the skull/bones as bleach will continue to erode the bone over time whereas peroxide will not.

I used stuff that hair dressers use. Its a powder you mix with peroxide haven't had any problems yet but have only done three or four that way.

       Looks very good however!

That looks great but I get that bucket of water did stink.
She said " did you see that?" He said "Of course!!!" She said " Why did you step in it then?"
