I need to start this story 2 years ago. While hunting from my tree stand on my property 2 seasons ago I had a doe and a button buck come past my stand just out of shooting range. They walked down wind and she caught my sent and did as does do started stomping and then snorting however she did not run instead she circled back and forth in a semi circle comming closer each time. she was not going to leave untill she found the source of the smell. I did not get a shot and she pinned me in me tree. I did notice that both of her ears were half white on the back side about half way up. Well I saw her and her fawn quit a few time that season but she would never come close to the stand instead making wide circles around it.
Last season the second time in my stand I had a group of 5 does cut across the pasture behind and down wind of my stand. They were feeding along not headed towards me however I was watching them. all of a sudden the lead doe stopped and put her nose in the air and turned towards me. She kept her nose up and started to walk towards my stand about 50 yards out she proceeded to snort and do the foot stomp. But this time she was looking up at the tree my stand was in , she did not see me as the trunk of the tree was between myself and her. After several minutes she turned and bound away taking the other deer with her.when she turned I realized that it was white ears.I saw her and the same group several time again last season and she again made wide circles around my stand.
Last night 45 minutes into the 2012 season I had 4 deer come in from up wind. Feeding but mooving towards the hay field on my right. the lead doe got about 30 wards out still up wind and froze, she stood in one place for several minutes even turning to walk away once. The other 3 deer were standing behind her and to her left. Then one of the does walked up beside her , and then continued on towards my stand along with a button buck. The lead doe was now last in line. they walked past my stand and turned giving me a hard 1/4 away shot at the last doe. hit her a little far back but drove the woodsman tipped arrow to the fletching. I found her after an easy blood trail. As I was attaching my tag to her ear I realized it was white ears.
