tragedy has struck my first selfbow

Sat out in the rain for this to happen while drawing on a spike.
   
   
     
     
glad i got to kill at least one with it though.

That's a shame Gio. Looks like it broke along a grain line. Did you do a lot of heat manipulating to the stave while building it?

Yep, had it happen once when I was drawing on a turkey. Not a good feeling.

The first year I had decided to go trad I had my first selfbow let go the night before season. I feel your pain.
This stuff ain't no rocket surgery science!

Yes pat. this stave had alot of twist that we heated to try and take out.

Looks like your bow has some tricky grain coming out of the handle and broke at a run out place that would have been hard for you to avoid.

I have found even the most insignificant grain violation will come back to haunt you.
