.....of killing a buck with the longbow. She started shooting a longbow with me 3 years ago this past spring. She was good enough to hunt that first fall and killed a doe. Last season was her second season with the longbow and she shot another doe. Now her goal has been to kill a buck and tonight she did just that. I work for our county EMS and do 24hour shifts and was just unlucky enough to have to work today so I missed the opener. I just got this text picture from her and she said she balanced her phone on the limb and used a timer. LOL. along with the story.
He passed through her shooting lane at 15yds and she made a great shot on him. It was a hair high but she said it had double lunged him and the hit was solid.
The rest of the story (and why the dog is in the pic) is that my wife is color blind and can't see blood. It's never really been an issue in the past, but I've always been there to remedy that situation for her. Our Bassett will track wounded deer. We haven't worked with her too much but she has found every deer we've put her on, which is about a half dozen.
she took bell to where she shot the buck and bell was right on it. Went about 10 yards and Rach said she came across the arrow. She said that her and dog covered about 50 or 60 more yards and then they were on the buck. I just got off the phone with her and she said that she got him gutted and he's hanging in the barn now. I can't wait to get home in the morning and see him. I'm so proud of her!!!
Oh, she's shooting a 50@28" MOAB and she draws about 26". She was using Poplar arrows that she built herself with shafts we got from Magnus and scary sharp 2 blade Zwickey's.
