Building wooden arrows sure is fun...
« on: October 03, 2012, 11:57:00 PM »
Here is my 2nd half dozen. A little more fancy that my first half dozen. I died the caps with yellow Rit clothing dye mixed with denatured alcohol. The crests are sharpie markers. I was experimenting and the crests arent all the same. I almost wish I would have sprang the extra few bucks for barred feathers. The first half dozen sure shoot nice. This week was the first week of bow season but I cant get out until next week. I got 4 arrows with Zwickey Eskimos all tuned up and sharp.
Scott.

Its not the size of the animal you hunt that matters. Its how you hunt the animal.

Looking good, Sir. Yes, building arrows IS a ton of fun. Hopefully that yellow will turn orange soon from the "red" mixing with it.

Be careful, it becomes quickly addicting.

The nice thing about building your own arrows is that you can make plain everyday stumping/shooting/practice arrows or as fancy as your skill allows.   ;)

Guilty as charged.

Your arrows look good, problem is, every time you make a new batch you will want to experiment. Then on the next batch you will want to improve the experiment and try something new. It always will leave you wanting another set. lol

I'm fletching a set now.

The red, black and orange are regular sharpies. The silver is some cheap metallic marker that was priced 2 for a dollar. The silver took forever to dry. I took 2 scrap 2x4's and drilled a hole through them I chucked the arrows in a cordless drill and stuck the arrow through the 2x4's. This was my "cresting machine"!

Sharpies and Pilot metallic ink pens are the way to go!
