A few hours later, i finally heard something approaching from behind me, and I was quite pleased to see three yearling does approaching this heavily used trail, still far enough away to allow me to get turned and in position for a possible shot. As the first doe neared, she hesitated and performed the foot-stomping head-bobbing dance that we all know all too well. She stiff-legged into my best shooting lane and stood broadside at 12 yards, but she was still on edge and I feared she would spook if I tried to draw. Besides, if she made it to the cornfield safe, the other two deer should be more relaxed if they followed in her footsteps, so I passed on this deer. 30 seconds later, my prediction came true as the second yearling stepped perfectly into my opening as the first doe posed in front of my trail camera 18 yards away from my tree.
I burned a spot in the middle of the 2nd deer’s chest with my eyes while reminding myself to squeeze my shoulder blades together as I slowly began my draw..
