MISSED 2 TONITE!!! What did I learn?........
« on: October 10, 2012, 08:53:00 PM »
After getting my first one a week and a half ago I was riding a pretty big high! Oh how quickly we get knocked back down to reality!! Tonite was the first shot opportunity since then. I had 4 does come in and I waited on a shot at the biggest one. She was moving kinda quickly to my right. As I started to draw she stopped before giving me a clear shot. As soon as she stepped out I rushed it and shot right over her. After she took off another came racing towards my tree and stopped right under me to my right. Straight down shot and missed her too! I sat there as the other 2 does stood right in front of me frozen for about 5 minutes. They still did not know I was there. This was about 7:00. Right before dark.

So here is what I took from this...

1) Even if a moron comes driving a loud pickup down the gas line right toward your property (about 200 yards away) at about 5:50, it pays to stick it out.

2) PICK A SPOT!!!

3) You should carry more than 2 arrows with broad-heads. Even if you miss 2 deer in less than a couple minutes, another shot can present itself!!

4) You should never take a shot out of a tree stand that you have only practiced a couple times. That straight down shot is no joke!!

5) And last but not least, ASAT Vanish Pro 3D suit is the    BOMB!!!

Man it was still awesome though!!

Just want to clarify a point I made above that has been brought to my attention. It has to do with the stupid shot selection I attempted and the lesson I thought I had learned from it. Obviously I admit at the time I was on a rush with 4 deer around me and I made a bad judgment call. My point was regardless of the success rate of the shot, I should know better than to try ANY shot I have not practiced to feel comfortable attempting. I am no way saying that tomorrow I am going to start practicing that to use in the field, though I have tried it just messing around. But a I guess there was more than one lesson to be learned from that one!!! ( Thanks Charlie!!)
