An amazing Robin Hood...
« on: October 13, 2012, 03:05:00 AM »
Hi gang,

last week I was training at the archery range. As usual with my pupil Irina, who is doing great. I am learning her how to shoot traditional. She is shooting only for half an year now, but she is a gifted archer. Last months I worked hard to improve my form and to get rid of some nasty habbits. Last weeks I could actually see some improvements, but this day I was shooting like hell... I was in great form and grouping scarey good. Just one of these days...

When we train, we shoot at different distances between 16 and 54 yards (15 to 50 meters). We shoot after each other one arrow, 3 arrows in a row and then get them out. Especially the 54 yrds is fun! To stimulate my pupil more, we shoot at balloons. We make them small on 15 yards and big on 54 yards. Killing a balloon, means picking a different distance, to be choosen by the one who killed the balloon. In this way we have great fun and a great exercise.

As told, this day I was shooting great groups and killed many balloons. My arrows were dangerously close to each other, even on 54 yards..I couldn't believe it

Then suddenly, when shooting at the 54 yards, and having one arrow in the pack, I heard a cracking sound when my 2nd arrow hit the first arrow. I saw my first arrow move. After inspection, it seemed I had shot a Robin hood! The nock from the recieving arrow completely exploded and was gone, no pieces found back. I shot several Robin Hoods already, but never on 54 yards, amazing is't it?

I have no pics of it, but to make it up I will place a pick of me and my pupil Irina, after a great 3D tournament in the woods. It was Irina's first tournament she ever shot. She ended as  second that day, hence the silver and the big smile that lasted for one week at least....      :)

Congratulations sir!  Fine shooting and great job of sharing our traditional archery passion with someone else?

Have to give the killing balloon range a try.  That sounds like fun!

Showing off again.  I never hit the bale twice at 54 yards.  Wow.  Nicely done, and in front of a student

Yup, shooting at balloons is fun! There is only one downside: you keep on shooting and saying: "okay, just one more, this is really, really the last one...."    :archer2:

Great shooting. But Irina is a lot better looking than you.  ;)
