Black Widow Bows
« on: October 15, 2012, 07:46:00 PM »
I have had a few recurves over the years but never the right bow that kept me shooting traditionally.  Probably over poundage which produced a lack of accuracy and a lack of commitment.  Today I went in and shot Black Widows at Nixa.  After shooting every model and limb length, my groups told me the 58 inch PCH was the bow.  So I have a 58 inch PCH 48 lb Autumn Oak on order.  I drew the bow smoothly and hitting my anchor felt very natural.  I just loved the bow and the way I shot.  Roger and the boys took 2 hours to help me decide.  Its a long trip to Nixa but I a going to pick up my bow instead of having it shipped.  That way they can help me properly tune and select arrows.  I have dreamed of a BW since the early 90's and it is coming true.  I am very excited to be fully committed to traditional archery and having a bow built that will fit me exactly.  I can't wait.

Killing machines those Widows are.   Not the quietest, not the prettiest, not the lightest, but made for the sole purpose of performance.  Oh, tough as nails too.

Congrats!!

Congrats and welcome to the club.  My Widows are my go-to bows, and I shoot them better than any others.  Great bows and great folks behind them.

Congratulations!  I've owned 4 widows, one of which I hunted with for 15 yrs.  Right now I have a 58" PCH II.  My favorite one yet.  I never had a problem with noise with any of them. I have several "big name bows", & my PCH is the smoothest shooter. Good luck!

I shot only Widow recurves for about 10-12 years, then started trying out different bows. I've settled on "Hill" style longbows now,but don't have a bad word to say about Widow bows or the guys that build them. It was always a smooth deal working with them and their bows shot great.
Good luck with the new bow.

I am a huge fan of widow bows.  My current bow is a 58 inch PCH as well.

They have always shot well for me.  It gives me a shot of confidence when I pick it up.    Fantastic construction backed by a fantastic company.

One day I am going to  make the pilgrimage to Nixa as well.  I want to do the same thing that you did.  Take all day.  Shoot everything and order another Widow.  It doesn't get much better than that!

personally i like the KB one piece. I also think my widow is as quiet as any longbow I have ever owned and I think it is gorgeous.

Great bows, and great people who build them. If you have a noisy Widow these days, you simply don't have the correct string on it. Mine are quiet as a church mouse.

I love Widow bows! I currently don't actually own one but that may be remedied in the near future with one of their PSA's. Their bows are fast, smooth, stable, and absolutely gorgeous. My only complaint with them is that their longbow grips just don't fit my hand like a Tomahawks. Oh and once you get one Widow you will always want another one.

I have had several Widows MA's, PSA's all were great bows, great shooters. But every time I shoot my friends PCH I hit what I want to. Why I don't get one I just don't know. I think you made a wise choice with the PCH............

You can't go wrong with a Black Widow! Awesome bows if you invest the time to tune them in. It's my primary bow.

I thought this post was a question, Do you want a Black Widow Bow?....

So my answer is YES, I WANT A BLACK WIDOW!!!! LOL

Glad to hear you're getting to make a dream come true, congrats! I had never shot one until attending the Instinctive Shooting Clinic put on by G. Fred Asbell and his wife Teresa. I had the honor of getting to shoot Teresa's Widow, and absolutely fell in LOVE! They are a great bow and easily shootable for me. Congrats again, and don't forget to post up some pics when you get your bow!
