Stippling suggestions??? HELP!
«
on:

Steve at Eagle Wing Is making me a new longbow. I was considering getting some type of stippling or carving on the riser. Was looking for something more than just standard checkering. I have seen some impressive risers from jim at Centaur and others I can't think of right now. Can you guys give me some ideas? Pictures would be very helpful if you got some.
Thanks
Mike

Look at what Lee Hoots does with his bows. Hoot's Custom Bows is the name of the business, and he has a website.

Not the best pic but here's my Hoot's little hoot recurve with "Moose tracks and a antler" and it feels great in the hand...
I was able to do this so hope it helps...

Not the greatest of pictures, but here's a pic of a Centaur I used to have.

Jim Neaves is a great choice. He inlayed a killer stone point into one of my Centaurs along with stippling. Check RER bows website Mike. They have some pretty nice work on there also. He does a unique stipple pattern, and engraves as well.

Mike, just a bit of advise. Watch about your heel/palm area of your bow. I had a Whitetail shed engraved in a riser. It looked great, but after 12 or so shots you were bleeding from it. rat'

Robert,
Wow I have shot mine over 100 times ina shooting sesion and never noticed anything that relates to discomfort to my hand but mine was done by Lee Hoot's ...I guess it may depend on who stipples it and how deep or how sharp the edges are..Mine is sealed very well when Lee stippled it and no sharp edges..Everytime I pick mine up I just am in "Awe" with his craftmanship...

Keefer,That is it..the edges got me. I had a pinecone riser from Bob Morrison that did the same type of thing. Just abrasion. I can see in your Hoots pic that it does not look as intrusive. But,just wanted to give pamike a heads-up on what "can" happen in that area. rat'

Kirk at Bigfoot volunteered to do this on my bow...
I find the checkering can be a bit "sharp" under hand since I drive a desk for a living and don't have heavy calluses on my hands...
Here's what he did for me and it surely does improve grip, looks nice and is much more subdued than checkering.

That is what I am thinking as well - bigger cut vs fine checkering. Was thinking of having some design in there as well but can't figure out what would look good.
Any interesting ideas?

pamike- Check out Duane Jessop's work on his thunderhorn bows. Probably my favorite stippling, it is a little larger than others, looks very nice. Just do a search on Thunderhorns. KentuckyTJ and some others on this site have some killer Thunderhorns with awesome stippling!
