About two weeks ago there was a lot of deer movement around noon.
Have not noticed it recently.

ALWAYS!!!!! I have never been one to "stumble" in and out of the woods, to and from my stand...

I prefer to wait untill it gets light enough to see where I'm walking, then stillhunt my way into my stand making as little noise as possible. The same thing with walking out... As soon as the sun dips over the horizon, I stillhunt my way out.

Many times, I have encountered deer going to and from my stands and most times, they are unaware of me being there. I take almost all of my vacation during deer season, but I normaly work 12am - 8am. By the time I get out of work, it's already light... But if the weather's good, I head for the woods. I shot my biggest buck at 11am, and most of the others between 10am - 2pm.
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

There is a fine line between Hunting, & Sitting there looking Stupid...

May The Great Spirit Guide Your Arrows..... Happy Hunting!!!

I think he is referring to when the deer are on their feet and around the rut we see deer on their feet all times of the day.I usually catch bucks cruising around 10-12 time frame around Halloween Thats when i spend long hours in the stand.

I have seen deer in the middle of the day many times, but as said it was a bit later in the season. In the evening I just walk out when the sun dips below the horizon, that's the end of legal shooting time anyway....sunrise - sunset in New York!

When the bucks are rutty, there is no bad time to be in the woods.  10-2 though, that time of year, is one of the best.

For some reason the deer in one of my areas have been at my stand in the predawn dark. This has caused me some headache this year. They usually never get there til 0830 or so. Rarely have seen deer here in the late afternoon so if I don't kill one there soon I might have to try a mid afternoon approach but mornings have foiled me this year.

Just today a buddy commented that he was dubious, but glad he started to sit that 10-2 period last year.  I told him I was seeing them at that time, and boy has that worked out where there are big ones, and light hunting pressure. Even in pressured areas they seem to be out at times, but stick to the thick stuff.

When one talks of hunting the 10-2 shift do you guys really head out at 2 or does it depend on the deer movement? It just seems like you would spook deer leaving at that time.

Mid day is good. On public land it seems like deer pattern hunters and are very active in the middle of the day.

AS everyone said, the rut can be good, that's when I tend to sit all day!

Nick, I dont think people are talking about leaving the woods at 2, they just try to be in the woods as much as possible during the rut because anything can happen.

There are times where you have to hunt when time allows....if I can only get out on a day from 10-2 ,I'll leave the woods at 2pm. I'm retired so I can go when I want ,but there are times where I only have a couple of hours.....so I go for it!
