Top 5 Recurves
« on: October 20, 2012, 09:32:00 PM »
What would be most of your choices for recurves. Like what would be your "wish list"  I had two Schafers in the past and two Blacktails in the past.  Man I wish I had one of those Schafers back....
Leon Stewart 3 piece TD "Slammer" 62" 54lbs

Way too personal of a question...that is why there are so many custom bows.

I spent most of the decade of the 2000s trading high end recurve after high end recurve until I found the one...for me.

That is the TallTines.

I have shot just about all the different recurves made and there are a LOT of excellent bows out there, but the TallTines is the whole package for me.  I don't own any other recurves and I don't even want to shoot other bows now that I have my TT's.

Now then, get your weapons, your quiver and your bow and go out into the open country to hunt some wild game for me.- Genesis 27:3

Right now for me:

1. Sasquatch
2. Habu Hycurve
3. Metal riser Predator (LH unavailable to date)
4. Schafer Silvertip
5. Bear Custom Kodiak TD - A Handle (Type 1 LH--My dreamer)

I have others that are great and many consider their #1's. Handling feel is most important to me. Performance on my chronograph is #2. Aesthetics are #3.   The chrony is important to me because it is the only objective measure I have.

As Steve writes above, this is a very personal question. I've owned and moved bows that others consider perfect.

If I could add a 6th it would be a bow no longer made, Rose Oaks's rendition of the Super K (Super Wildcat).

There's a few names that always pop up and I doubt and are really better than the others.  All have their own "personality" though.  It all comes down to personal preference.

Of the bows I own or have owned, Blacktail is my favorite.  My Silvertip and Dye recurves are a close second and I'm really liking the Robertson Fatal Styk I picked up through the classifieds.  I could live happily with any of the bows in my signature, that's why I've kept them.

1 border black douglas hex6 bb2
2 border black douglas hex6 bb2
3 border black douglas hex6 bb2
4 border black douglase hex6 bb2
5 border black douglas hex6 bb2

nothing can compare with this recurve...I have owned more of 100 bows during the ten past years, and all of them (silvertip, shawnee, blacktail, buffalo, BW, etc) are outpasted by far by this bow at each level (softness; stability; quietness and speed)...

however I would be very pleased to give a chance to the sasquatch !

Any list without a Blacktail is just not a complete list.

I altready have my first choice in recurves, a Zipper SXT but I wouldn't mind one day getting my hands on a Dale Dye, Blacktail or Kwyk Stik.
Do not follow where the path may lead.  Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail.

Whippenstick Phoenix I know for sure, because I own one.   :)   For me the ultimate 3 pce recurve bow.

Then I would like to try a whole bunch of others, like a Toelke Lynx/curlew, Caribow Tuktu/Taiga, Bigfoot Sasquatch, Blacktail, Silvertip, Acadian woods, Eaglewing from which the riser fits my hand (fantastic shooting recurves!) , Whisperstick, and stuff like that....
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that string! [/i]
Cari-bow Peregrine
Whippenstick Phoenix
