Herters brace height
« on: January 17, 2007, 07:23:00 PM »
Does anyone happen to know the proper brace height for a Herters Intenational Match Hunter recurve?  The bow is 631/2 inches 45#@28 inches.  Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I have one. It is on the top rack of my bow rack, and there is so much piled up in front of the wall that I can't get to it. It is past my bedtime and I am leaving for a hunting trip on Friday.

You are in SUCH luck! My husband braved the debris and stood on a bucket. The sticker on the back of the riser says: "String Length 58 Inch".

Ah! That's better than asking you to PM me for an answer when I got back!
I forget how to read the serial number, mine was made either in 1970 or 1977. Prolly 1970.

Thank You, I have a 58" string installed.  I currently have the brace height set at about 7", but I was told by a couple of folks that the brace height should be 9.5 to 10 inches.  That sure sounds high to me.  I do notice that the front of my fletches are riding at the very back of the arrow shelf, not clearing it completely.  What is the brace height set on your bow?
Thanks,

Yansa, could you post a pic of your bow.  I have a herters bow but I am not able to find out much about it.  Thanks, Bill

I usually go by the manufacturer's say-so, and then tweak it until I am happy. I agree that 9 or 10 inches is way high. I normally listen and shoot, and set it to where it is quietest. Mine are typically pretty low braces.

For some reason Herters measured their brace height from the back of the bow not the standard way, that makes their stated brace height about 1 3/4 too high when measured from the grip.
