I think Lin is correct. I believe that is Howard Hill on the left and Errol Flynn on the right.

That's Howard Hill teaching Errol Flynn, Howard Hill was the Captain on the Archers in the movie Robin Hood.

Tradlongbow (Darren) and Harl (Tom) are both correct. Also, Howard performed all the "trick" shooting for Errol, including actually shooting a "Robin Hood" in the competition where Howard played the captain of the archers but split the arrow when shooting as Errol's archery stunt double. You can read an account of this here:   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Hill  . There is disagreement as to whether Howard was able to split the arrow along its full length or was only able to split the nock end and had to resort to a cinema technique for the full length effect.

I could be wrong, but I'd bet any amount of money up to a nickel that it's Mudd and Ron Laclair.

That is Howard Hill on the left. Yes, Flynn and Hill became friends. The HH Sirocco Limited Edition Bow was made in honor of Flynn's yacht "Sirocco".

Yes, Hill split the arrow in the movie. But, to get the "split" down the middle effect, they used a hollowed out bamboo arrow, as the target arrow to be split.

Also, watch the film closely and see that the men Robin Hood shot, were really shot, with an arrow. They had wood plates inside the tunics. Howard actually shot them. No trick photography. He shot them with live arrows.
