Indiana public land success on the ground!
« on: October 27, 2012, 03:38:00 PM »
Watched the sun come up to a cool Indiana morning with a north wind blowing.

Setup next to a big ditch with a blow down behind a big Oak. The deer have to drop way down in the ditch and pop up right in front of me.

Deer in this spot don't usually move til later in the day so I sat back and enjoyed the morning and hoped the swirling wind wouldn't give me away. A little after 9 I had my first visiter. It was a large solo doe getting ready to cross the ditch and cross infront of me. She crossed, I started to draw with her at 5 yds. and Busted! Should have drawn while she had her head down Dummy!

The next two came in behind and I managed to take a couple pics.

The sun was crawling higher in the sky and I was thinking maybe I should head home a little earlier than my regular all day sit. And.....

Suddenly another solo doe appeared on the other side of the ditch. She was moving quickly til she hit the spot the other doe busted. After some looking around she started to cross. She came up infront but too quick to get a shot in my first lane.

As she moved across she caught wind of the scrape I had freshened earlier and put on the brakes and turned her head away from me. I was at full draw with vitals between a small beech and a huge vine. No room for error but it felt good. The string slipped from my fingers and POP!

Sorry guys. Had a bunch to do.

Anyway the best I can figure the Pop was a rib or the opposite shoulder not the tree I thought it was at first.

Placement looked good so I waited a bit and slowly took up the trail. Had very bubbley blood and a bunch of it for one hole.

At the end of about a 200 yard track I found her. She ran straight back toward the truck.

The shot was a bit forward and she was quartered away. The 1.25" VPA did its job on the front shoulders, ribs, and lung.

I'm shooting a Two Tracks Longwalker 53#@28"  CE 250's and 1.25" 250 gr. VPA's.

Here's a pic for Chuck.
