I have 6 new beman mfx classics, they are 500 spine, I have the brass and aluminum h.i.t. Inserts and want to shoot 145 grain woodsman broad heads. I have 7 bear recurves all 45 lbs. and a 45 lb. hickory/bamboo selfbow, I draw 27"s. do any of you have a similar setup and if so what length arrow and weight of insert are you using or would recommend?

I don't have access to my Stu's Calculator where I am these days.
However, I shoot 500 MFX arrows from 45-49# recurves at my 26" draw. My arows are cut to 28" and I have 100 grain brass inserts (not the 75 that come with the MFX) with 125 grain broadheads. My arrows weigh 515 grains. I use 3, 5" feathers.
I would think with your extra inch of draw you would be very close by using the 75 grain brass insert and your 145 grain woodsman with a 29" arrow. Your arrow is likely going to be around 520 grains.?
Of course I'd prefer to run the numbers through Stu's Calculator because there are lots of variables such as; string type and centershot.
I have no idea what the self-bow would require?

You could start with the arras full length and use the aluminum inserts with 145 pt. I think Bowwild is right cut from 28-29" 50 to 75 gr. insert should serve you well.

Like Possum said, I would get them flying full length to see where your at. Then if you wish you can add weight and shorten them.
Cuz once there too short, there too short.

It all depends on the centre cut of your bow. if its 1/2 before centre your dynamic spine requirement is 30lbs
I would recommend starting with the arrows full length, and use as much weight as you can. MFX 500 spines need 275gr up front (at 30 inches) to get down to 30lb spine.
