Corsican Ram (mountain goat) hunt in France
« on: November 05, 2012, 04:09:00 PM »
Hello gangers i already put some pics of the hunt but maybe it could be interesting for you to hear about  those mountain goat hunt we have here in France.
Here is my journey:

first i found the good arrow for my new bow : GT big game full length with 50 gr insert and 300 gr head was doing not bad, at least at 20 yards.

Then I went in the very south of France, close to the spanish bordure, the place i was born, where we can free range hunt those specific mountain goat: the corsican ram. They are quite rare but in that place we can draw around to 20 tags per year but only 3 to 5 rams/years: End of october starts the rut, best time for bowhunting.

We went uphill before sunrise and started to stalk some herds. In fact it was very calm as weather is still warm here so
we stopped for an ambush in a "secret place" known as a "ram highway" deeply in the forest on the way to a little river.

I was eating an apple , the bow and shooting glove on my side and the arrow in the quiver ( as you see a real professionnal         :D        )  when i saw my ram coming: a monster ram for that place : it was walking fast and i was so surprised that i just had time enough to put my glove but couldn't grab the bow...i felt it was over but that guy stopped, probably hearing very far away a rifle shot. He turned his head allowing me to get the bow and nocking on an arrow. Then he started to walk but i could call him and stop the ram at 14 yards, broadside for a second....

I saw my arrow entering above the elbow and could see my ram running away, bleeding on both side, across the forest for 80 yards then it was out of sight.

easy track from the hit

Then i saw him, 120 yards follow up

First hero pics once my mate who was 2 miles away came to me:

Then the worst part of the hunt  :biglaugh:

Once we found water we could gut the beast:

that time it was easier to make nice piccs:

And back home...

Nice ram!  We have them here in Texas but not the mountains you have.  Beautiful.

Congrats for such a nice trophy. Those rams are very sensitive and hard to get with a bow.  :clapper:
