325 grain Screw in Broadhead?
« on: November 06, 2012, 08:35:00 PM »
I am currently shooting 325 grains up front.  I have a 125 grain screw in adapter and a 200 grain ace head on it.  Just wondering if there is a 325 grain screw in head out there?

Tuffhead offers a 300gr head. Not sure about any that offer 325.

9 shocks, You need more like an anvil on the front of that shaft. You are at least 3 shaft sizes too stiff and will probably never get a broadhead to fly decent with those 250's out of your 41 @ 27" bow. Those shafts are best suited for 55 +++ lbs and then some.

Probably not going to find a head bigger than the 300's either.

good luck, bigjim

You are in luck if you want to shoot a single bevel two-blade broadhead. VPA has the 325 grain Single Bevel 2-Blade Offset broadhead that is outstanding and is a screw-in. It is super-tough and will take down any game animal on the planet with a sufficient weight bow and heavy arrows. They also cost less than half the price of the ABS Ashby heads, that are also excellent but not as tough as the VPA heads. Here is a link.   http://www.rayzor-vpa.com/VPA-Offset-2-Blade-Single-Bevel-325gr-VPA-OSSB2BL.htm

Not that you asked, but I agree with Big Jim that the Carbon Express 250's are almost certainly too stiff. With enough shaft length and point weight, the CE 150's might work fine, but you probably could shoot the CE 90's if you wanted to. Using a 325 grain broadhead with a 44 pound bow is certainly not optimal. I think you might want to stay under 200 grains, and probably closer to 150-175 grains. There are lots of great broadheads in that range that would work well for deer-sized animals.

I am thinking you will need an arrow with a .500 deflection for a bow in that poundage. I don't shoot carbon express but I believe that is something like a .350 deflection and your arrows are going to weigh more than 600 grains. If you are serious about accuracy I think you should switch shafts and go a bit lighter on total arrow weight.

Thank you for your input everyone!  so what would be optimal in terms of arrows for this bow?  If I was to purchase CE heritage 90s or 150s, what length and size head would work? or traditional only arrows?  Still learning about trad bow tuning and such.  It seems that it takes a little more expertise and experimentation then the wheely bow!

You may want to start a separate thread. You will probably get more replies.

Good luck!

you are going to need the CX 75's. They are a .600 spine and most suited for your set up. Shoot about 145g up front and cut shafts a little at a time until the bare shafts fly true.

I sell about 600 dz of these shafts a year and help a lot of people work them out.

good luck, bigjim
