Well, a couple things.  First, not bragging just trying to put this in perspective.  I have killed 100 or so big game animals including bear, deer, and elk with a 70 pound compound shooting aluminium arrows weighing 510 grains and can count on one hand the number of animals that wre not complete pass thrus.  The kind you dig outta the ground.  I have only been trad hunting for 2 years and have shot 6 deer.  3 were complete pass thrus, 2 poked thru the other side, one hit the shoulde ridge any never penetated.  So ou mileage truly diffes on that.

I also have shot deer that autopsy showed shouldn't have run that far or lived that long, but they did.  It happens sometimes.  You did the right thing to get your deer.  I have seen mortally hit deer get up and turn an easy kill into a nightmare.  So hanging tight was the right thing.  There is no script and sometimes it ain't pretty.  Thinking with your heart to do the noble thing can lead to bad things in this situation.  But, you know that because you didn't do it.

Congrats on your first trad deer.  God Bless

Congrats on your first trad deer! I think the only reason it did not die faster was the fact that it didn't run a long ways and use up what little oxygen it had very quickly.

The liver had a couple of slits in it but I couldn't tell if I did it field dressing or with the broadhead.

Just shot my second!  A little yearling doe.  Momma busted me like only an old doe can do.  Took a hasty 3/4 drawn shot at the little one who was in the open.  She just about ducked my arrow, but got a solid liver hit.  Easy 100 yard blood trail. Picture in just a few.  Got to hand it to VPA 3 blades.  So far this year the same one has gone through 2 grouse and i.to the tree behind them and now two deer.
