How many use classic or vintage broadheads?
« on: November 08, 2012, 07:41:00 PM »
Long story short, i found some MIA Pearson shafts tipped with Switchblade heads in my barn, still in the box, never shot, complete with replaceable bleeders. Seems a shame to just have them lay around, but on the other hand they are classic pieces of our archery heritage.
Just curios how many still use the classic and vintage heads?

I decided to retire my vintage razorheads. They saw plenty of action in my younger days. I still use some older zwickeys though.

Started shooting trad with Zwickeys. Still shooting them today.  If it aint broke, don't fix it.  I even bought old rusty ones at yard sales and flea markets.  They looked lonely.    :archer:

I've used and taken game with a number of different broadheads over the years. 4 blade, 3 blade, 2 blade, replaceable blade, single bevel, etc.

My favorites for a long time were Ribteks. I still have some and will use them in a heartbeat.

I was looking to switch to a more readily available head and came down to the Ace Standards. I like a 2 blade head, they sharpen easily with a file, real tough, fly great, Made in the USA, and you can still get 6 for a reasonable price. They did a real nice job on the last 2 whitetails I shot.

The Ace Standard, or some version thereof, has been around since the 1930's. I'd call that a "Classic." Good company to deal with as well.

I'm using Switchblades now also. I mix them in with Zwickey Eskimos. I shot a bear last year with one and was impressed.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

I'm still using Razorheads. They work as good now as they ever did.

Zwickey, Magnus, Ace, Bear, and a couple of Dead heads also.

Still shoot Zwickey and have some old MA-3 that I shoot some.  Great heads, as good as any built today.

Mine are all modern but vintage styled.  Ribteks (harken to the old Pearson Skeleton Ferrule), Magnus II (kind of Fleetwood. . . ish) and Stos (kinda like the '39 Zwickey, kinda).  All simple file-sharpened single blade heads.

I must be the only person who got into a bad batch of Zwickeys.  I bought two dozen four blade Eskimos (blue paint) in the 80's and had three of them fail at the spot welds in practicing on stumps.  The same stumps the Ribteks and Magnus IIs shrugged off.  I relegated them to bunnies and coyotes and still get the occasional failure - though some silver solder and they soldier on.  As I say - must have been a bad batch.     :dunno:
