Well I have been seeing this boar for the last 2 weeks but have been after deer , and with a few nice bucks down it was time for some hog work. So last night would be the night that I go after him and what a long night it was.....More to come....

Like I say I have seen this boar a few times in the last weeks , I had got a nice one off this place the first week of Oct and this guy showed up to take over. I run corn feeders on the place and have several pics of this hog on the trail cams. My stands are set up 75-100yds off the feeders on trails cause big deer and big hogs just dont eat at feeders without doing a big loop and playing the wind. And with that said very seldom in daylight hours , they aint stupid by any means. I had seen this pig 2 times in the daylight and once at night , all on the same trail. So I got in my ladder stand with a strong south wind 15-30mph and the south wind is what I needed and I sure had it. From 4:30pm til how ever long I was going to stay cause I knew he was going to come my way before the night was over...

Ok these are never long and drawn out , loading pics now. So I sit and sit and wait on this hog and never see a thing until an hour after dark a few coons come by then a few deer. Its getting around one in the morn and Im wondering if he will show or not. About then I hear the wire on the fence pop and twang its gota be him ( the crawl he is going through is 100yds away and the wind is howling and I heard it ). I figure it game on now and it is him I can see him in my binos make a big loop around a feeder and once he got the wind right he just stood there for about 15-20min and never moved. The feeder is about 100yds or so from me and he is now between me and it , he makes a move and does a zig-zag back and forth for a bit then he is gone back the way he came. About 30min pass then I hear him eating at the feeder , never saw him come back he was just there......

He eats for about 10min then turns and starts my way on the trail that I have seen him on a few times. Well he gets half way to me then just takes a hard right and is out of sight.( aint easy to see at night with the binos soon as they hit the brush or any shadow you cant see em anymore) Its getting around 2am now and I havent seen or heard anything for a while now , was really thinking of calling it a night. But I always talk myself into just one more hour then just one more hour , I say to myself you have been here this long dont whimp out now......

My hind end was getting sore I have been in this tree almost 10 hours now. Several weeks ago I went and gathered up several 5gal buckets of acorns and mixed in some corn and will throw it out in front of my stands once a week or so. There were 2 big coons down under me eating the whole time this was going on. All of the sudden they hit the trees and up they went in a hurry and next thing I know the boar had bum rushed them and was right under my ladder stand. I had never heard him come in I mean not even a sound Im sure the high winds helped that. But there he was about a yard from the base of my tree making some mean sounds. Now happy with him self he takes over the coons dinner , I hit him with my red light a few times and he dont care a bit just keeps on rooten. So now everything is set just need him to turn and give me the shot. Oh yea he was a little bigger than I thought so I changed my arrow from a TreeShark to a little smaller of the Simmons line...........

Im shooting my Tall Tines that pulls 60# at just over 30in draw and a 740gr footed GT 75/95 and a Simmons head. This thing hits like a hammer so Im back to my old ways of staying tight on the shoulder.He is about 15yds or so and gives me a very slight angled away shot and I drop the hammer on him. The lighted nock went right to where I was looking and knocked him over for a second then he was gone. Dang I love me some hog hunten This tree might not be as fun as stalking but you could not tell that with amount I was shaking. Not sure if it was me or the wind causing the tree to move so bad , I just cant get enough of that feeling. Like I said once back on his feet he was gone in a flash breaking brush and slinging dirt. But that did not last long and I heard him go down a very short distance away...

I will give him a bit so he is good and dead and gather my gear. While doing this I heard one of them coons make that squalling noise and I almost fell out of the tree ,Scared the crap out of me. I hit the tree they went up with my light and there 20yds away and right in line with me lay one of them looken right at me. A judo out of the quiver was about to be on its way , he was dead across and maybe a few feet lower. All I can see is his head so I figure the judo would do it , and it did hit that sucker right between the lookers and he hit the ground dead as a hammer...

Back to it Im getting loaded about to head for the firehouse ( three hours away ) for 3 days.
On down the short trail there he is not as big as my other off this place but plenty good for me...

 
 
 

 By now it aint far off of daylight so I got some better pics in the light , then got him skinned and taken care of. These bigger boars always stink pretty bad but he did not , I will know in an hour or so my mother-in-law is cooking his backstraps for supper....
