Sue's First Trad Deer
« on: November 12, 2012, 07:15:00 PM »
My first deer with a recurve. How exciting is that?!!!

Mike & I moved my stand last week to a better location. This morning we were in our stands 1/2 hr. before light. We placed the scent pads from my son's deer that he got last week near an intersecting trail about 10 yards from my stand. About 7:30 AM out of the fog I see a large body deer coming my way. He headed directly for the scent pad. I had an angling away shot at about 15 yards. My shot was back further than I liked, but I caught the liver and right lung.
We recovered the deer within 70 yards. The deer was a large buck but both antlers were broken off at the base. Very unusual, never seen anything like it. We first thought he had been hit by a car but there were no signs of damage to his body anywhere. We believe he lost his antlers in a fight with another big buck. ( our best guess )
It sure has been a long wait to get my first deer with a recurve! And it sure feels good!

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it's going to launch you into something great.

The whole family toasted your success tonite Sue! Way to go on an awesome deer.

So happy for you and words can't do it justice. Looking forward to hearing the story for years to come around the campfire.

Congrats again and again to the best shot with a recurve I know.
