WV button buck
« on: November 15, 2012, 03:29:00 PM »
Climbed a new tree in a new area I had found some fresh sign in. About 7:30 a doe came walking by about 20 yards and offered a nice broadside shot. I drew and released and heard a hollow thump as the arrow buried in a log behind the deer. I was aggravated at myself and texted my buddy "bicster" a member on this site and told him I just missed a good oppertunity. I sat there another couple hours and seen a few more but had no shot options. I noticed the tree I buried the broadhead in was a recently downed tree from a recent snow and the shot shouldnt have sounded hollow like it did. I got out of the stand and low and behold had a bloody arrow with lots of good blood on the ground.

I had a nice big blood trail and knew the deer was hit good.

Thought I shot a doe but had a little button buck.

  •

Ended up with a double lung hit and the deer only traveled about 60 yards.

At least you know you have plenty of penetration potential with your set-up...a pass through and broadhead buried in the wood! Congrats!

Thanks everyone, only my second trad kill, missed a big one early in the season and was discouraged, but continued to leave the compound at home. Have been trad only all year and believe it will be that way until I die unless an injury forces me otherwise.

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it's going to launch you into something great.

Way to go Josh!  :clapper:

Was it with the 2 blade VPA like you said. Or was that a typo? You are showing a 3 blade VPA sticking out of your quiver. Just curious.

It was a 2 blade vpa I shot the deer with, I have a 4 arrow quiver and had 3 2 blades and 1 3 blade. Both are 175 grain and fly the same. I probably shouldnt have 2 different broadheads in my quiver but they both fly well.

  • I havent shot an animal with the 3 blade vpa yet but Im very impressed with the 2 blade. It was KME sharp passed through the deer and buried in the downed tree. Im only shooting 50lbs and it was about a 20yd shot.
