A new leaf
« on: November 15, 2012, 10:20:00 PM »
A once-met aquaintance sent me a new bow via a new friend to begin my new journey.  On 11/04 I did a very stupid thing and it cost me a fingertip (now reattached but sore).  In searching for options in the Classifieds and mentioning my stupidity on a kill thread a man I had stump shot with one day a few years ago offerred me an incredible bow - an original LH Red Wing Hunter of 41#.

It's near immaculate.

Dredging up some old arrows I had for my 45# Kodiak I shot this group at 15 yards . . . using an old Neet cordovan fingerstall from my longbow days worn on my left hand and squinting my right eye to allow the left to be quasi-master.  Pitiful form to be sure.  For a 41# bow (I'm overdrawing 1-1/2" so 45#+/-) it spits out a fierce arrow!

Not quite ready for the Olympics but at least I didn't disable the furnace or break a cellar window.  I'd say not bad for a first-ever attempt at weak hand & weak eye shooting!  There is now hope.  And also 25 otherwise unused raw 11/32" P.O. shafts of proper spine under my workbench I can make up into arrows.  A REAL bonus.

Thanks Ken (kat) for the bow and thanks Dan ( BrownA5) for the delivery.  Two good TradGangers and two true gentlemen.

Once again, traditional bowhunters shine

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it's going to launch you into something great.

Again at 15 yards after a bit of practice and a 5# stiffer spined shaft.

I had a bow just like that only right handed, very nice bows. I sure hope you make out good shooting left handed.

I must have broken that bow in for you, because it didn't shoot that kind of group for me at first. LOL!!!

Good luck Charlie, although it doesn't look like you will need luck with a start like that.

Back to reality this morning before heading off to work.  Three arrows in a two foot group at 15 yards.  It's just so unnatural - I have to think about everything and that certainly spoils the zen and flow of the shot.  If I just focus and shoot I throw wild.

One thing for certain is that I have to get a LH tab.  I remember why I don't use fingerstalls.

My RH anchor fits my jaw like my tongue, but LH is just unfamiliar and alien to me.  This really is a unique opportunity to relearn archery.

I highly don't recommend it.     :banghead:
