When I was a kid back in the mid 70's my Dad used to play around with bows a little with a few of his buddies. I would say this really sparked my interest in archery. They would get together and shoot bales of hay occasionally and myself and my buddy would shoot little bows made of creek willows and cotton string.
Back in 1999 when I got started shooting traditional bows my Dad had long since gotten rid of his recurve. I asked one of his buddies if he still had his old bow and he too had gotten rid of his. Last year my wife, who is a PTA and does home health, came home and told me she had a patient that knew me as a kid. It ended up being the other guy that had shot with my Dad. He wanted me to come and visit and of course the topic ended up being deer hunting! I asked him if by chance he still had his old recurve and sure enough he did! He said he would have to dig it out if he could remember where he had put it.
A few weeks later he called and told me to come over that he had found the bow! I couldn't get there quick enough! When he pulled the bow out my mouth dropped open and my eyes got very big. It was in a little black Bear TD case! When I opened the zipper I was like a kid on Christmas morning. Inside was a Black Bear A Mag!
That was last December and I had already taken a deer so I would have to wait till this year but I was determined to take a deer with the bow that did so much to influence my love for archery!
Tuesday morning I had my chance! This is my 13th traditional deer taken on November 13th with a very special bow!
