Dedication must be a bad word.
« on: November 17, 2012, 11:28:00 PM »
After a Q and A session at work from some guys that had some equipment failures and some missed gimme shots, i brought up the dirty word
" Dedication".
I was trying to explain the simplicity of trad. archery, but with that i also tried to explain that success depends on dedication, as there is no such thing as an overnite success when it comes to being proficient with trad. gear, as it takes time and practice. Well needless to say, they looked at me like had just sprouted rabbit ears.
Being one who just loves to shoot, it just caught me off guard that these guys feel like practice and shooting is a horrible torture.
Dedication for me translates into love, the love of always striving to be better, shooting, and doing things for myself.
Its sad that there are those that choose not to enjoy the "Dedication" that we all enjoy.
To each his own, but that " dedication" word has given me 30 plus yrs of pleasure, so i figure, if it aint boke, dont fix it.   :coffee:

I shoot evert day in my cellar "range" before work.  On 11/04 I chopped a finger of my right hand and for two weeks could not shoot.  The longest I have missed prior in over two years of keeping track had been two consecutive days.

I now have a left-handed bow and am back to shooting daily - and it is going to take some dedication to get good enought to hunt.  Feels totally wrong to shoot left handed.  But I figure it is a great mental exercise to relearn traditioal archery.

I don't know may modern bowhunters who go roving or stumpshooting.

I shoot thousands of arrows a year. My family members with the "modern" gear are lucky to shoot 2 dozen arrows a year. Then they wonder why their stuff is loose, doesn't perform, etc, and they just don't enjoy shooting. What a shame!
