Take Down Bow Recommendation
« on: November 19, 2012, 09:20:00 AM »
I have been shooting a Martin Savannah 50@28 which I really enjoy shooting mainly 3d and target as I still feel my aim needs to be refined and distance needs to be longer for hunting.

I am looking for a used take down recurve 50-55@28 and am looking at the Predator, Lee or possibly Black Widow.  Does any one  have any advise on the 3 of these TD's?  Are there any other TD I should consider? I am trying to stay in the $400-$500 range unless I find a great deal on a Black Widow for a few hundred more.

thanks

Doug

I am sold on Bob Lee bows I have three really like the short riser(Grip fits me perfect).I had a predator was also a fine bow but was no faster than my Lees and Grip was kinda big) and I had a bunch of Lee limbs which allowed me to mix and match any wgt.I needed.Never had a Black Widow.

I would go with the Black Widow out of those choices.

I'm a fan of Wes Wallace but I think there are probably too many good bowyers out there to try and list them all. If I had started out with a different Bowyer or if Jim Brackenbury were still alive I'd probably have gone that route.

Never held a Bob lee or Widow, so I ant speak for/ against those .   Have owned five  predators and still have one.   Its hard to beat and you can easily find one in that price range.

You will get a million opinions on that. But of the three bows you mentioned I know I would most likely be going with the widow. Not because it is necessarily better than the other two but just that the widow suits my shooting style. And as far as widows go I prefer the MA series the best.

If you like the way longbows shoot then check out the Legacy series Tomahawks.

There are a bunch of bows in the classifieds.  If I were in the market for it, and if it were long enough for me, I'd be looking hard at the Acadian Woods that's up for sale right now.  Great bow.  And no, I don't know the seller at all.

Everybody is different. Many people seem to like the Widow, I've shot the Widows (owned 3,shot about 10) and I find the Bob Lee to shoot much better for me. I have never shot a Predator but they have a strong following.
So what I prefer is different from the next guy. All depends who you talk to.
All are definitely top notch bows, theres no question about that.
Unfortunately there are TONS of other bows to consider! Way too many to list.
Sounds like Soap Creek may have a good option for you?

I just noticed you are in Tx. If you are anywhere near me (Georgetown) I would be glad to let you try my Sarrels Blueridge takedown longbow or my Sarrels Bobbcatt takedown recurve to see if you like either of them.

I owned a bob lee and have talked with them a few times. I sold it as i mistakenly overbowed myself with that one. Its near impossible to find somwone who will say a negative thing about the Bob Lee bunch. Tehy are in Jacksonville Tx if that is close.

Hey Bisch
I am in Wimberley.  Thanks for the kind offer but I am leaning heavily to the Lee or Predator

Again thanks,
Doug
