Long bows with recurve style grip
« on: November 19, 2012, 04:01:00 PM »
Howdy all, just looking for recommendations on long bows with a recurve type grip.  I just missed out on a beautiful kanati and am hoping to come across another like that...minimum of 55lb draw. I currently shoot a 65lb recurve, but would like to come down 10lb on my next bow.  Anyways,  I really like the grips on the kanati's and am looking for other bows comprable to it....preferably with a price tag around $450.  I'm watching the classifieds, but would like to know what other brands are good options. Thanks!

I understand why you are looking for the recurve style grip. I have always shot a recurve with a high wrist grip. The standard longbow grip seems to be a low wrist grip.

I recently purchased a Toelke Whip from the classifieds and really like the grip. There is a "thumb rest" on the right side of the grip and it really feels comfortable in my hand.

It was near your "price range".

Good luck!

Talk to Chuck at Two Tracks. Great bows and he can build about any grip option you want. Prices start in that range.

Thanks fnshtr, The toelke's are high on my watch list too.  You're correct with the high wrist grip, that's how I shoot, with my palm off the grip and finger off as much as possible to try to prevent any bow torque. I seem to be able to achieve this best with a recurve style carved grip.

look at Legends Bows. He is a sponser here and his bows are great shooters and the price is right. Awsome bow and he will make the grip you want within reason.

Thanks rxhntr,  there's a beauty of a legendsbow in the classifieds, a little light for my taste, but I was checking them out too.

Those two may not be in the price range you requested, but the link will take you to an instock bow that's priced at 500.

Most take downs can have longbow limbs mounted.
Another one piece bow would be a Centaur.

Ryan,
That Stalker you have linked looks like a dandy.
It looks like it's right in there weight-wise and very close dollar-wise for the OP.
Nice price for a brand new bow!!

Take a look at the Tomahawk bows legacy series. It is not a super high rist grip but is very comfortable. I'll try to get some pictures of mine posted later tonight.

I would take a hard look at Kanati. Jason builds an awesome bow with an excellent grip. I've owned amd shot several custom recurves, and my Kanati points and shoots as good or better than any bow I've shot. They are very well made and are priced right. Can't go wrong!

Hey I know that longbow that Ryan posted! The top one! It's a shooter for sure. I loved it. It is now being shot by another friend, since I have my takedown. You won't be dissapointed in South's bows
