Favorite short recurve or R/D longbow?
« on: November 23, 2012, 12:46:00 PM »
I'm looking to try a 52-56" recurve or R/D longbow. There's no way that I'll be able to try out all of the customs available; and there are a lot of good ones out there - I know. For those of you who have tried a few bows in your days, what fits the bill for a 52-56" short bow that's quiet and quick? *emphasis on quiet

I have a true 26" draw so finger pinch not likely to be an issue.

Thanks for your opinions!

The best thing is to go to Kalamazoo in January and shoot all that are there.  We won't be attending this year but there will be a bunch of bows.

Bob Morrison is shooting a 52" bow with his new MAX I limbs. I'de give him a call. He also has a 26" draw. Sounds like  you want something like he is shooting. If I am not mistaken he is shooting his super short limbs on a 13" riser. My wife has those limbs on her 17" riser giving her a 56" bow. I LOVE that little bow but  Bob told me I"de probably be happier with 58" bow. So that's what's coming.

I love my 56" Pronghorn r/d longbow.

Herb is working on a 56' "50's" style recurve for me now. I am sure I will love that as well.

Wild Horse Creek bows.  He makes longbows as short as 52" and a recurve that is 54".

If I had a shorter draw, this bow would be on its way to my house.  These are great bows.

Maddog. I also have a 26" draw and I have longbows from 50" and recurves from 46" from Mike.Great bows for the money.

46" recurve "The Machete"

50" "Prairie predator" longbow

Mike has designed bows to work VERY well at shorter draws.

Come to Kzoo shot some bows, but some of the ones I like the best likely will not be there. I think the Morrison bows are tops for short draws. Hoots are real nice. I also like the Whisperstix 56" recurve. Big jim thunder child should nge nicer but I have not shot that one.

There are some nice bows you will probably see at the expo and can decide for you self. ACS makes some great short hybrids. Look at their 12" risers.  Look at the Shrew for sure. I would also try the Two Tacks, and Country Country short recurve.

Checkmate, a Canadian bow has a really well built, quick, quiet 52inch model called the Raven.  You might want to take a look at one of them.  They are very well priced for the excellent worksmanship you'll get.

I have a Dryad ilf 15" riser and short static tip limbs coming in Jan. really looking forward to shooting it, the static limbs are extremely quiet.  Highly recommend them. The bow will be 56" but when strung produce a 54" bow.

Hoots has both L/B and recurves. I love my 56" Lost Creek. Bears K-mags are no joke and can often be found in the classifieds at great prices. Big shows as mentioned earlier are the best for checking out all your options in a hands on fashion.

I have a longer draw,29.5", and have had a hard time finding a shorter bow feel right. Especially long bows. That all changed recently. I shot an Arapaho by Roy Hall. It's 56" and so smooth, quiet and quick. I am going to try to sell some things to order one. I called Roy, such a great guy to deal with, and talked about what I am wanting and can't wait to afford it.
