My Homemade - Short Billed Cap
« on: November 24, 2012, 01:58:00 PM »
Here is a prototype of a short brimmed hat I made the other day.  Other than the ones offered here on Tradgang, I can't seem to find them anymore. I used my wife's seam ripper to clip all the stitching in the brim, peeled back the cloth and then cut the plastic brim material down to the desired length, trimmed the cloth to match the new brim length and then secured with fabric glue/cement.  I used an old camo hat I had laying around that I didn't mind sacrificing if it didn't work out.  I think it came out pretty good, I may go ahead and give it a try on one of my hunting caps.
I show it next to a cap with a regular full size brim so you can see the differnce.

Nice job.

The others are still available at most of the places that had them before TG started selling them.

Tree Rat, are you talking about the Army Surplus style of hat, like the ones here on Tradgang??

Nice job!  Like Burnsie said, if you can't find a short bill after the TG ones run out just look at a Military surplus store.  They have quite a few!

Yes, the exact same hat(s) sold by many vendors long before TG ever started selling them. They all come from the same wholesale source.

I used to get short brimmed hats all the time when I was a kid. They were everywhere. Then they dried up for a number of years. I ran into these hats about four years ago and was ecstatic. Then they started showing up in a lot of places.

Yep you can find those type from several sources, I just don't like the camo pattern or that style of cap.

Send them my way Ryan! I'll tinker on a few more old hats in the mean time to get the process down.  Or maybe I can just get them from you in the spring when the Steelheads start running,  hint - hint
