I was thinking about ordering a Morrison, help me decide
« on: December 03, 2012, 07:08:00 PM »
I was thinking about ordering a Morrison, I just dont know which one to pick. I know for sure I want the long bow, and foam limbs, but I dont know which riser to pick.  The ILF seems to be popular. What are the differences? I have a 29.5" draw, not sure if that matters to much or not. I think with the foam limbs I am going to drop a few pound in weight. I currently shoot 54lbs and I was thinking about dropping to 51. Any information you guys could provide would be a great help!

I have a Morrison with the new metal riser and MAX1 limbs. I can't say enough good things about it and how well it shoots.  Also, Bob and Barb are great folks. You can't go wrong with any of his bows.

I have a cheyenne and its a shooter for sure! I'm sending it to Bob to get refinished this week. It's a great bow with a great grip! The cheyenne you can get recurve, longbow or max1 limbs for it!

Longbowlogan, do you know if the shawnee riser is inter-changeable with all the different limbs?

You can get longbow or recurve limbs for the cheyenne, shawnee and ilf risers.  Most seem to prefer the shawnee for lowbow limbs because it has less deflex in the riser, but i think that is more personal preference.

I like my cheyenne and after i get my lighter weight limbs i plan to make it my hunting bow.  Good luck with your decision.

Check his website and you can see some of the options.

What was Gene Wensels bow, the one he killed "Woody" with? I think it was with a Shawnee.

If you want versatility, get his ILF bow with MAX 1 limbs, you will not be disappointed. I have 3 of his bows, my favorite is the ILF MAX 1 setup with 17" Riser and long limbs for a 62" bow.  I also have a 29 1/2" draw, really smooth to way past I can draw, and shoots lights out.
The great thing about the ILF setup is, you can change weights over about a five lb. range. Get the bow max weight at 54# wich you now shoot and you can adjust it down to around 49# if you want a lighter bow.
You cant go wrong with any of his bows, just make sure you get the MAX 1 limbs, way worth the money.  RW

I have at least 8 of Bob's bows, in all the riser configurations, except the metal risers, along with several extra sets of limbs. I don't have any problem with other people shooting metal risers, but I personally don't care much for them. The ILF risers are available in phenolic, wood and metal, and I like the first two. All of Bob's limbs are great, but the MAX I limbs are purported to be the best of the bunch, even though I don't have any. I hope to correct that problem before too long. The Cheyenne and Shawnee risers are wonderful too, but the ILF riser is definitely the most versatile, and it has the deflexed riser (similar to the Cheyenne) that I prefer. I too have a 29.5" draw length. You would love a Morrison bow!

I currently shoot a used cheyenne that is 62" with "D" limbs for my 28" draw. For my first traditional bow, I feel I lucked out and got a bow I fell in love with! I have large hands with fingers that look like they have guts in them. Even so, the medium grip fits me perfectly. I loved it so much that I called Bob up and ordered a custom cheyenne with similar specs, but upped the poundage 3 or 4 #'s and got the max1 recurve limbs cause many people say how incredibly smooth they are. I'm pretty sure what ever Morrison you choose, that you won't be dissapointed.

From what I read you are looking at getting the longbow limbs?

I have had quite a few Shawnees with longbow limbs in D and E size and its a very good match looks wise on that straighter riser.I also had the cheyenne with longbow limbs. It was nice.
I believe I prefer the longbow limbs on the Shawnee riser.

I do like the recurve limbs on the ILF bow and Cheyenne alot.I like the deflexed riser with the curve limbs.

I have never had the longbow limbs on the ILF risers of Bobs.I have had 4 ILF risers from Morrison.15,17 and 19 inches.I currantly shoot a 17 incher.

The ILF riser is gonna be very versatile for you with the poundage adjustments and tiller adjustments and limb angle adjustments.A set of the Morrison longbow limbs would be a great rig I am sure and you have the option of adding recurve limbs from Morrison Archery like the new MAX 1s or the multitude of other limbs out thier in so many lengths and price points from high to low from other manufactorers.

I do really like the wood, all phenolic, diamondwood or a combination of the phenolic and wood in the same riser which is what I shoot now.Solid, strong, highly deflexed, nice looking and you get excellant flight of the radiused shelf when shooting of the shelf which is what I like to do.You can get a custom grip on Bobs ILf risers as well if you want and finger grooves are an option to consider.

I have 5 Shawnees and two ILF's(15 & 17"). I love them all. All are wood risers in medium or low grip. I have a half dozzen sets of longbow limbs and a couple of recurve and prefer the carbon/foam.
Morrisons will not disapoint you, whatever you select! Enjoy!

I have had two Cheyenne's and have shot the Shawnee. I really like the Cheyenne. With that said I have never shot longbow limbs on the Cheyenne riser. From my experiences I'd say whatever your choice you are dealing with the top of the food chain in Bob's bows.

I have a Cheyenne A riser with D limbs making it a 62" recurve. Its an awesome bow. I have a 28" draw and could have gotten shorter limbs but wanted the stability of a longer bow. I did try some longbow limbs on my Cheyenne riser; they shot very nice but I perfer the recurve limbs.

You won't go wrong with one of Bob's models.

I have owned each of the models (barring the one piece bows) and wound up keeping the Shawnee and the ILF. Bob makes recurve and longbow limbs for both ILF and Shawnee risers, but they are not interchangable among risers as each attaches differently. Currently, I like the recurve limbs on the ILF and the Shawnee as a longbow. The Cheyenne Riser was a bit chunky for me, but a larger person might really like it. I also like the shortest risers, 13-14", best. You can't go wrong with anything from Morrison-- his bows are extraordinary to look at, and to shoot.

I have 4 Shawnees and one Dakota. I love the A riser and D or E limbs. All are foam/carbon with all phenolic risers. I'm not a fan of tinkering, my bows are tools and my theory is keep it simple. No wood no moisture issues, the less nuts and bolts the better.Nothing beats a Morrison.

Thanks for all the info guys! I'm calling Bob tomorrow to talk about it. Do any of you guys have pictures of your bows? If you do post them up.
