Clothing with hoods
« on: December 03, 2012, 07:26:00 PM »
How many of you use clothing with hoods? Hooded sweatshirts,Asbell wool, jackets etc. I've started liking them especially in the wind. I really like them either up or down for keeping that cold off your neck and down your back. Just wondering what you think.

Same here.  I really enjoy a hood.

I teach PE so when the weather cools down I am in hooded sweatshirts all the time.
I agree either up or down they help to keep me warmer

No hoods for me. Hoods mess up my side vision. I really do not like hoods. When it is realy cold, I prefer a wool cap and a nice, warm, woolen, neck gaiter.    Wool rules!!  :D

All my favorite outerwear has a hood- mostly for neck protection.  Occasionally I actually use the hood as intended but it screws with my hearing and vision a little.

I'm like Shedrock. I can't wear a hood for the same reason. I'm bad clausterphobic also, have trouble breathing with a hood on too

Most of the gear I wear in the field has a hood, but I never wear the hood up. Don't like my ears covered!

I like hoods if I don't have to hunt out of them.  For hunting, particularly stand hunting, I find them restrictive.  They block my peripheral vision and continually mess with the light knit skull cap I try to wear under them.  I only own a couple of hoods now.  On my bowhunting hood, a KOM, I've sewn the sides back a little at eye level so I can look from side to side without my vision being blocked.  Most times, I do like Shedrock -- wear a heavy cap with ear flaps, or a couple of stocking caps, and a gaiter.

I wear hoods about 23 hours a day most of the year.  I do like to keep em trimmed back a bit for hunting and usually slip them off for a shot.  I cut back my Asbell pullover hood about half way.  I couldn't see where the heck I was goin....

I don't usually use a hood, even though I have several jackets that have hoods. I, too, find them restrictive, but if caught in an unexpected rain, they are great.

Love hoods!  I find I get cold fast when my neck is not covered.  A hood and a scarf/shemagh cover me most of the time in the field.

Never liked them.....then I got old. Now I use them all the time, Asbell pullovers, Fleece with wind stopper, A hunting parka when it real cold....all have hoods and I use them!

Yep,       I believe in hoods.  They get rid of the round head shape and keep the critters guessing.  The Asbel hood works great over a hat for me, but with Laclair's long hunter's hood it fits a little smaller so no hat.  Like 'em both though.

I love hoods as well. My favorite 40 degree and above outerwear for bowhunting is a Sitka Gear hoodie.

I like it because it will snug up around the face so when I rotate my head to shoot I don't get an eye "lost" in the hood.

I slip a stocking hat over my hoods for the same reason, so I don't get the "lost eye" syndrome when I turn my head.
