TORGES Seat - have a question about it

So I made up a TORGES seat and used it the other night for the first time.  I have to say it is quite comfortable.  Definately better than the little 3 legged stool, I was using.  I really like the ability to put it at whatever height you want according to the tree/cover you are in.

 I found if I got up to stretch, shift whatever or at the end of my sit that the seat would loosen and drop down the tree.  This obviously made quite the noise.  What do you do to the seat to make it retain its position if you get off the seat.

It may help hold things in place if your rope is  long enough to make one entire extra wrap around the tree before attaching it...

I put one of those little screw-in bow hooks on the back side of the tree and make sure the rope is above it.  I can also hang my pack from the hook.

I padded and covered mine with some camo fabric. If I am careful about getting up, it will maintain its position. I usually test it a few times before settling in for a long sit, just to make sure that it won't give out and to make sure it wants to stay in place.

I saw an adpatation to one where the builder put a few screws into the seat where it meets the tree.  He then cut the heads off of the screws and filed them to a point.  The screws would then bite into the bark when pressure was applied to the seat.  Hope that helps!

An extra wrap around the tree does it for me. Works even on the smoothest of trees.

I use a couple of metal 90 degree corner flats with the corner of the metal stick out about 3/4" on the top of the board. The position of the rope should not be too high on the tree and then start with the seat up about 45 degrees before seating it down with your weight. On dead trees with no bark, I have an extra hole on each back corner and cinch that tight with a chunk of parachute cord tied with a truckers hitch.

I took Rob W.'s idea and added a cut portion or a rubber bicycle intertube and covered the area that meets the tree then applied the small hex bolts to bite into the tree.

A bungee cord hooked to the seat around the back side of the tree.

I did the same thing. Used an industrial strength gasket and sheet rock screws.

I used a piece of high pressure reenforced steam hose.

 

Got really luxurious and glued on a bit of foam pad for my bony butt.

I just stapled stapled a bicycle inner tube to mine.  Holds in  place very well even with a single wrap on the tree
