Hawg hunting gear
« on: December 05, 2012, 03:23:00 PM »
Heading down to Texas in February to hunt hogs with Doc.  I've been a few times, and every time I try to take less gear along.  Half of what I take never seems to make it out of the duffle anyway.

I thought it might be interesting to see what other people find they can't do without on a hog hunt.  My must have's are;

1. Bow n' Arras
2. Skinning knife
3. Stool or seat of some kind
4. Cell phone
4. Camelback
5. Jerky or snack food
6. Camo clothing
7. Chuck Taylors
8. Extra socks
9. First aid kit
10. Lighter
11. Space blanket or small plastic tarp
12. snakebite kit
13. sierra cup

Toilet paper, besides it's intended use, use it to mark a blood trail.

Flash light. You never know when that blood trail get's a bit long.
Don't hunt to kill, if I kill is because I've hunted.

Agreed David.  I've got a warm up Florida pig hunt in January to get things rolling before Texas.  Lifes short, make the most of it.

A good knife sharpener. When those hogs have mud in their hair like they usually do it will dull a knife in a hurry.Dont know about Texas but here in south bama in the river bottoms we have skeeters so big they sit on the tree's and 'bark', so take some skeeter spray!

Leave the snakebite kit[useless and may cause more damage] and wear snake protection.

Pack tweezers and needles for removing spiny things.   :)

No way I'll go without a couple of bottles of "Smoke in a Bottle" to check the wind currents. I always bring camo gloves anda face mask too.
